Our Mission

To reduce cancer mortality in underserved communities by increasing awareness, promoting early detection, and providing emotional and logistical support to patients and their families. We believe that no one should face this battle alone.

Our Vision

A world where no one fights cancer alone—where every individual, regardless of socioeconomic background, has access to life-saving information, early screenings, and compassionate care.

Why Back to Life?

Cancer doesn't just attack the body—it steals hope, strength, and the joy of living. At Back to Life, we believe that through education, early detection, and compassionate community support, we can help individuals and families reclaim their strength and rewrite their stories.

Back to Life is more than a nonprofit organization; it's a movement to restore hope, empower lives, and bring light to those fighting cancer.

Strategic Plan

Our comprehensive approach to fighting cancer in underserved communities

Our Three-Pillar Approach

Our strategic plan focuses on education, early detection, and international collaboration to create lasting change in cancer care accessibility.

Awareness & Education

Knowledge is the first line of defense against cancer. Our education initiatives include:

  • Conducting workshops and campaigns about cancer risks, prevention strategies, and the critical importance of regular screenings
  • Developing and distributing multilingual educational materials to ensure all communities can access vital health information
  • Training community health advocates to spread awareness in their local areas
  • Creating age-appropriate educational programs for schools and youth organizations

Early Detection Initiatives

Early detection saves lives. Our screening programs aim to make detection accessible to everyone:

  • Establishing mobile screening clinics that travel to remote and underserved areas, bringing life-saving technology directly to communities in need
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to promote early intervention and ensure proper follow-up care
  • Creating screening reminder systems to help individuals maintain regular check-ups
  • Providing navigation services to help patients understand and access the healthcare system

International Partnerships

Global collaboration strengthens local impact. Our partnership strategy includes:

  • Building partnerships with international non-profit organizations and medical experts to share best practices and resources
  • Engaging with European doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and biologists to share expertise and strengthen Iraq's healthcare system
  • Reaching out to international consulates in Erbil to develop long-term collaborations and sponsorship opportunities
  • Facilitating knowledge exchange programs for healthcare professionals

Key Project: Mammogram Unit for Hiwa Hospital (Sulaimaniyah)

Following extensive discussions with Dr. Sara, an oncologist at Hiwa Hospital, it became clear that a mammogram device is urgently needed. Mammography is a crucial tool for early breast cancer detection—yet Hiwa Hospital currently lacks this essential equipment.

Impact of This Initiative:

  • Establish a permanent screening center on-site at Hiwa Hospital
  • Serve hundreds of women each month with life-saving screening services
  • Save countless lives through earlier diagnosis and treatment
  • Create a model for expanding screening services throughout the region

This project will be a lasting contribution to the fight against cancer in Kurdistan and beyond, creating infrastructure that will serve generations to come.
